Shiatsu Bodywork Certificate Course
This course includes the General Foundation Course, known also as Stage One, plus a further module known as Stage Two. The Shiatsu Bodywork course therefore comprises of 24 days of study (or 20 days on residential version). In addition, there will be a further 3 days of advanced Sotai instruction. This qualification is the only one of its type outside Japan.
Shiatsu Bodywork is a fusion of basic Shiatsu technique and Sotai. Sotai is a highly effective system of simple exercises and techniques that equalise muscle tone and correct distortions in the posture. It can very effectively eliminate pain in the back, neck or shoulders, and release muscular stiffness or pain anywhere in the body.
Sotai uses the principle of following the line of least resistance. For example, if your neck will not turn easily to the left, then specific exercises based around moving the neck to the right, away from the pain and stiffness, will re-establish full mobility.
We offer the following formats:
- Weekend Options (held approximately one weekend per month)
- Mid-week Options (held one day per week. Some courses held two or three days per week)
- Residential Options (a series of four 5-day blocks held several weeks apart)
- Combinations of the above options.
How Shiatsu Bodywork differs from Shiatsu Therapy.
Most bodywork systems fall within two broad levels of application and training:
1. Methods that primarily address muscular pain and distortion:
Swedish massage, sports massage, deep tissue massage and Shiatsu Bodywork are in this category. These methods do not require
an in-depth ability to diagnose and understand illnesses that result
from physiological dysfunction.
2. Methods that diagnose and treat physiological dysfunction:
Shiatsu Therapy falls into this category; using a comprehensive understanding of traditional oriental medicine.
